We came back to school all refreshed from the Christmas holidays to find some AMAZING sheet ice in our outdoor area. We talked about the temperature being cold because we had entered into winter. The ice was so thick and we were so excited. It was great to feel and explore the ice. We gathered it up and decided to melt it. We discussed that it had been water and had been frozen by the cold temperature. The children knew that pouring water onto the ice would melt it and turn it back to water so they gathered water from the pump and waterfall to pour onto the ice. They loved watching it begin to melt. However, they wanted to speed up the process so decided to gather pots and use these to bring warm water from the inside sink to make it work. It was so much quicker. What a wonderful opportunity to explore in the cold winter's morning.
