Learning outdoors

Today the children have loved being outside in the sunshine!
The children worked together to chop the vegetables to make a yummy soup. They demonstrated that they could use tools safely and could manage risks without direct supervision. We talked about our favourite vegetables and why they are healthy for us.



In the afternoon the children learnt about tally charts, what they are and how we can create one. The children drew their favourite vegetable from the options given onto a sticky note. This was then displayed as a bar chart so that the children could see how many of their friends liked the given vegetable. We talked about which one was the most popular and which one was the least. The children could explain their reasoning and knew that the carrot was the most popular as it was the biggest number. By implementing the bar chart, the children learnt how a dash in the tally represents one vegetable. The children as a class watched their peers mark the dashes into the tally and then had a go at doing their own.

Ducklings

We are so excited in FS1

The baby ducklings have hatched!
The children held them gently and we spoke about what changes will happen to the ducklings as they get bigger. We looked at their features and spoke about why they have webbed feet.
The children are so excited to see if the next one is hatched tomorrow!

Patterns

Today the children have been learning about patterns. To help us, we were given a very exciting challenge from the rabbit out of Alice in Wonderland. During the lesson we spoke about what a pattern is and how we can create one using the skittles. The children worked in groups to recreate the given pattern. They then followed the instructions, putting the skittles onto the tray and watched as I poured the magic water over the skittles. The children were so excited as they watched the colours draw to the centre like a rainbow!

After the lesson, the children applied their knowledge to the task. Which involved creating a pattern on the Mad Hatters Hat as the nasty queen had broken his. The children did a brilliant job!

Tea party

Today we were so excited to see that Alice had come into school and left us some yummy cakes to halve. The children decided that it would be a great idea to eat them but when we shared them out the children realised that there wasn't enough. This prompted a discussion of how it wasn't fair and promoted the language such as 'half them' and 'share equally'. One child explained to the class that we need to make sure that each piece needs to be the same size. The children with the cakes came to the front of the class to halve them and then gave them to a friend that didn't have one. One child in the class cannot have cake, so we spoke about how we can halve other things such as sweets. As we tried to halve a Flump marshmallow the children knew that the knife wasn't working and suggested that pulling it would work instead.



After the lesson, the children continued to develop their skills with halving by using the playdoh. Some children came outside to make a tea party in the house. The children shared their ideas and collected the resources they needed to make a sign, cakes and pin the tail on the donkey!

Our Garden Is Growing!

Look how our garden is growing! Our vegetables, salad and fruit are all growing and it is because we have taken such good care of them. We have watered them everyday and made wonderful observations about the changes that are happening. Keep looking on here to see how our produce continues to grow ready for the garden party ...

Trolls Party

To celebrate our fantastic work and the end to our AMAZING project this term we had to have a character party. There was only one theme that we could really have ... Trolls. Trolls was our most popular week of the project and the teachers just happened to have Princess Poppy's phone number so we could invite her to the party!

We played party games, had a magic show, re-enacted the story of Trolls, played with the parachute and danced to the soundtrack. We all had our photo taken with Poppy too!

It was a great way to end our fantastic term! It even encouraged us to write some thank you letters to Poppy ...
